Our History
Advanced Farm Technology Company was founded in 1991 in the small rural village of Martha Brae on the north coast of Jamaica. We take our brand name Martha's Best, from this village, which was named after a local heroine who some 400 years ago saved the village from marauding pirates.

From our humble beginnings of just 2 Hectares of papaya, we now have production operations in Jamaica and Mexico, employing over 400 full time team members, all of whom are working on our goal of “Bringing you the taste of the tropics, Wherever you are!" We also have 3 sales offices in North America covering 3 time zones, enabling our client's direct access to knowledgeable Martha's Best customer service personnel.
Our Growth
In 1999, with demand increasing for our Martha’s Best papaya, the freshest, tree ripened papaya in the world, we opened our Mexico operation with the main goal of ensuring supply to our customers, should we suffer a natural disaster at either one of our operations. We are the only supplier of papaya that presently offers this “insurance”, and although production will naturally vary with the seasons, we are better positioned to satisfy our customer’s requests year round.

Our Quality
We are continually upgrading our quality control programs both in terms of physical changes and constant training for our staff, to guarantee we exceed our customer's highest expectations. However, in doing this we are cautious to preserve our “natural product” by growing it from the “Best” seed nature provides, not using genetically modified material, not subjecting it to the effects of irradiation nor “cooking” it in a hot dip tank!
Our Committment
Coupled with our concerns for our customers, our commitment to our staff is second to none. At one of our operations our annual employee turnover for any reason and at any level, is less than 4% with many of our staff having been with us since day ONE. This speaks to our commitment to hiring the “Best”, and keeping them, whether they be harvesting our Martha’s Best papaya in the tropics, or conducting onsite visits in North America with one of our valued clients. Not only do we care about the human side of our business, we care about the environment in which we all work and live. While continuing our efforts to grow and market an organic product, we remain committed to reducing our “environmental footprint” by rapidly adopting any positive changes we can make, to any part of our process, be it changing our land preparation techniques, using more physical pest traps and barriers, or simply reducing the amount of packaging material we use in our final product. We believe that every “little step” is worth while.
Just like our papaya trees, “Martha's Best” is branching out, and shortly we will be offering other tropical fruits produced with the same care and attention to detail, as we continue “Bringing You The Taste Of The Tropics, Wherever You Are!"
